Hi Cosmo,
Okay, here is the definitive picture:
1. When accessing the primary chunk of the root dbspace,
online uses the current ROOTPATH as defined in the
onconfig file.
2. The value of ROOTPATH when the instance is initialised
(oninit -iy) is stored in the reserved pages. This
is what is reported by onstat -d, oncheck -p etc. You
cannot change this value. However, OnLine will use the
value from ONCONFIG as described in (1) above when
accessing the chunk.
3. When a chunk is added into OnLine for the first time
(for the rootdbs primary chunk this is at instance
initialisation time) pathname that defines the chunk
(the real path, not any symbolic link that points to
the path) must be mode 660 (rw-rw----) and owner/group
informix/informix. If these criteria are not met, the
chunk cannot be added to OnLine.
4. Once the chunk is known to OnLine, it will not subsequently
check the permissions or ownership when it opens the chunk,
even if you stop and restart the server.
5. Because OnLine runs as root, it can access a chunk even if the
chunk is mode 000.
I hope that clarifies things.
Regards,
Chris
