Re: Storage Wks vs Symmetrix for OnLine Storage

Carlton, I'm an ex-Digital employee -- yesterday was my last day and now I've started my own business. Over the past three years I've assisted, designed or established over 30 ISPs from small independent telephone companies, to prestigious whos-who in international governments and corporations. With all the Internet traffic and web/database services -- no problems on any of the StorageWorks. Together with Advanced File System (part of Digital UNIX, a buffered file system with online recovery), I've always recommended the StorageWorks. You'd have to speak with folks in Shrewsbury Mass (Digital) or once of their VideoServer trial customers (NYNEX, USWest) -- but they are the largest customer I know of StorageWorks (100GBs plus) and they sized their system's maximum capacity at 92 million consumer(users). So that puts scalability into its proper context. Wish you the best -- focus on the software that will manage and operate the RAID 5 arrays, etc. Since the early nineties, I've had great experienceses with all multimedia databases that combined Informix Online and StorageWorks.
