Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
The following describes a problem I had this morning. I know there are other
ways of doing reorgs (such as using Server Studio), but I need to understand
today's problem first in case it has wider ramifications.

Doug Lawry
-----------------------------------------------------
IDS 10.00.FC5 / Red Hat Linux (no HDR)
Intended procedure:
ontape -s -L 0 -N dbsname
dbaccess -e dbsname table_reorg
ontape -s -L 0 -U dbsname
SQL script "table_reorg.sql" contained:
ALTER FRAGMENT ON TABLE tabname INIT IN dbspace;[repeated for 9 tables]
Result was that tables 3 and 5 (after restarting) stalled with "On-Line
(CKPT REQ) ... Blocked:CKPT". Informix returned to normal after killing the
process on both occasions. The exercise was then discontinued.
No long transaction message (or any other error) was received.
Only one entry was returned by "onstat -l | fgrep -v B", i.e. the logs
weren't full, but logging was off anyway.
There was no activity according to "onstat -u" or "top" for at least 5
minutes while in this state.
A very similar recent exercise with the same application on IDS 10.00.FC8 /
Red Hat Linux ran fine.
