Can somebody help me with step-by-step instructions on how to do a reorg on Informix 5.10UC5. I would greatly appreciate it. I have just taken over the system and am new to this. The box is running HP-UX 10.20. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com/

you have to dbexport/import your database to reorganize it.
1) backup the whole database
(tbtape -s -L 0)
2) dbexport <database name>
The database will be exported to ASCII format in an directory
called
<database> within your current directory.
3) drop database (dbaccess|database|drop)
4) dbimport <database name>
5) update statistics (dbaccess|query|new "update
statistics"|[ESC]|run)
6) Activate Logging for your database(tbtape -s -L 0 (-B|-U|-A)
database)
To check logging mode of your database, use onmonitor:
onmonitor|status|databases
The flags in the right column will show you the logging mode
(B=buffered, U=unbuffered, A=ansi, N=none)
For faster import, remove the "create index" statements from the
generated schema file (./database/database.sql). Create them manualle
after running dbimport.
Hope this helps,
Wile
What do you want to get from "reorg"? What's "reorg"? David Kulkarni wrote: > Can somebody help me with step-by-step instructions on > how to do a reorg on Informix 5.10UC5. A "reorg"anization of the Informix tables could be either for a given table, dbspace, database, or system. (Plus any more possibilities that I may have left out). To David: Much depends on what your goals are for doing a reorg. Are you looking just to change extent parameters? Reduce the number of extents? Optimize table layout? The list goes on . . . . -- John Carlson Informix DBA WHSmith USA #include std_disclaimer.h /* These are my opinions, not my company's opinion */

This was my question "what your goals" in other words. > > > -- > John Carlson > Informix DBA > WHSmith USA > > #include std_disclaimer.h /* These are my opinions, not my company's > opinion */

Do you mean load balancing disk access? Do you mean redesigning the schema? What? First recommendation? Upgrade to 7.31 or 9.20. Art S. Kagel
