I must justify more RAM for IDS7

I posted a msg recently about long checkpoints and got some excellent advice
which included increasing buffers. The thing is more buffers = more RAM. My
system
is starting to use swap space and I guess to get over this we require more
RAM. Our
system is as follows:
Informix IDS 7.30.UC2
SCO UnixWare 7.0.1
Compaq proliant 6000 with ~ 25Gb HD RAD 5
3 pentium pro processors and 256 Mb Ram.
onstat -p shows:
Informix .... Version 7.30.UC2 -- On-Line -- Up 18:40:04 -- 131256 Kbytes
Profile
dskreads pagreads bufreads %cached dskwrits pagwrits bufwrits
%cached
24325046 3807141 1220385102 98.01 282842 521123 4544784 93.78
With 50k buffers and from what I have learned, it looks like we are going
through all
our buffers in 15 mins. So would I be correct in saying that as IDS works
totally different from
online with the threads etc etc etc ... more RAM is required and that it is
common practice to
upgrade the RAM as the engine will need to work harder than online 5 or
possibly even/also
that as I have allocated more buffers than previously, we are not seing the
performance benefits
as the system is starting to swap?

reduce bufreads. Check applications are using indexes
(SET EXPLAIN ON) also update stats using dostats from
www.iiug.org -> Software -> utils2_ak
