I always have my sysadmins name the device files something like: ifmx001 etc. so that they know that these are reserved for me. I have never had a sysadmin trash a RAW chunk but once each the sysadmins, operators, and developers' overseer (don't ask) have decided to "clean up" those HUGE files that user informix owns that it has not written to in a month or more trashing the development system (Sure I can use COOKED files for the development server, don't bother creating new device files just for THIS! I said, Arrgh. Try to be reasonable ...) Art S. Kagel

He couldn't get 'rm ~me' to work, so he tried (logged in as root) 'rm ~*'. Hmmm.... ~ = home directory... * = everything... remove everything from root's home directory... Should'a seen the look of sheer terror on his face when he figured out what he'd done. God, what a memory.
