Re: What is savegrp?
Posted in 2005
Hi,
a) see comments from June C. Hunt.
b) check $INFORMIXDIR/bin/onbar
It's a shell script. Usually this savegrp command is started
from there. If you don't want it, feel free to edit the
onbar shell script - for that purpose it actually is a shell script.
But before removing the savegrp command from the onbar
shell script, make sure you understand what it does and
what it means when you do not run it (regularly).
The idea is, that with the savegrp command in onbar shell
script, the ISM internal information (e.g. about backed up
objects) is also saved to tape. When recovering from a
complete disaster (e.g. your machine and all disks were
completely destroyed by a fire and you only have some
tapes from your off-site "tape bunker"), the newly installed
ISM needs to get to know where which things are on these
tapes. The info backed up to tape by savegrp greatly helps
with this task. Otherwise ISM has to completely scan
all tapes and rebuild the internal info from scratch ...
Regards,
Martin
