If your using Online then there is a parameter FILLFACTOR in your onconfig file. This is the percentage fill factor for indexes, lowering this value will create an index with more room to add new rows. Also increasing the extent size of the table will stop it fragmenting. The answer to the question is to increase the table's NEXT SIZE parameter before the cluster or ALTER FRAGMENT ... INIT statement to hold the entire table (actually the size of a chunk is the largest practical NEXT SIZE value) so that at most the table will have one or two fragments immediately following the reorg and allow for enough room for growth. You can then reduce the next size to something more reasonable value after the reorg is complete. Art S. Kagel
