Issues using divisions for raw chunks ?

The possibility of using divisions to increase the number of chunks I can have on a single disk and therefore make use of disks larger than 8GB has been brought to my attention. (FYI I'm running on a SCO Openserver 5 platform) So, if I have an 18Gb disk that I cannot divide into logical disks I can, for example, make the first partition 12 Gb followed by 3 2Gb partitions. I then use divvy to make 6 2Gb divisions on my first partition. If I have arbitrarily named my partitions p1 to p6 I now have the raw (character special ) devices /dev/rp1 to /dev/rp2 that I can link to more meaningful chunk type names. I have no problems with this (in theory) , the question is are there any problems/issues with this that I cannot see ? Is anyone out there doing this on a SCO box ? Ooops - typo that should be /dev/rp1 to /dev/rp6 ... as if you didn't know ... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Any Opinions expressed above are, at best, only consistent with my state of mind at the time of posting. Admittedly this is on a development machine and I am actually only using two 2GB chunks like this but it hasnt broken yet -} /J\\ -- Jonathan Stowe http://www.gellyfish.com http://www.tackleway.co.uk
