Hi, I'm using informix 7.31 on a HPUX PA-risc system. I was wondering if a program compiled with gcc could link in the informix ESQL/C libraries. I believe these libraries are compiled with the standard cc, is it not ? If I remember correctly, this should pose problems with calling conventions and the sorts, no ? Anyone that ever tried this ? Thanx, Peter.

Peter, In order for ESQL/C to use the gcc compiler, set the environment variable INFORMIXC to gcc. As a previous poster pointed out, if you want esql preprocessor to create a object file directly be sure to set the INFORMIXC environmental variable. We have linked in the libraries provided by Informix when we wanted some of the date routines, if that is what you're after. Just link in those libraries as you would others you use only occasionally. If you are asking about compiling esqlc source code with gcc, that too is easily done, and other posters have covered it. Check the release notes, for there used to be an issue with -fwriteable-strings or something like that in the esql shell script that handles compilation.
