Informix publicly announced there would be up to 500 job cuts around the world, largely because of redundant admin and marketing people, and what better time to get rid of people who aren't pulling their weight? Can you imagine the scene: "Here's a bloke, he sells $5 million of licenses a year, but we're just going to lay him off anyway"? Sure. They also publicly announced that they would be refocussing on core engine business, it's no secret that 7.x is effectively in the bin, and 9.x is going forward. Since no-one is buying 5 or SE (as much as I personally think they're brilliant products), why should Informix keep them alive indefinitely? Just ask the Sphinx -- he asked if anybody would like to take OnLine 5 on board as a GPL product and the silence was deafening. None of this is news. If this is how the salesman in question managed the account, is it any surprise he's gone? >"Christopher" <chrisc@jcdcrs4.jobcorps.org> wrote in message >news:8s5648$noo$1@news.xmission.com... > > > > > > I received a call from my Informix sales rep in D.C. and he told me that > > he had just been layed off along with a large number of sales and >support > > staff in the Federal Division. Informix has multiple database products that each address specific market requirements. IDS 7.X is still a very active product. Although 9.X is the current flagship product, current 7.X customers are still very much supported and can purchase additional 7.X licenses going forward. Online 5 is still selling. Mostly as an embedded database with var applications. If we can find more opportunities to sell 5 in any environment we will do so. > > Just ask the Sphinx -- he asked if anybody would like to take OnLine 5 on > board as a GPL product and the silence was deafening. > > None of this is news. There is some refocusing and replanning going on but the results, so far, have been additional commitment to the products that will make Informix Software successful as a database company. Many of the initiatives and actions that have taken place since the announcement of the splitting companies indicate investment in the future not wrapping up for a sale. Shawn

If it was, silence was because wrong presentation. And it was not really a silence, there was some IMO positive discussion on conditions needed to make it work...?
