OK, quite a while back. When it came to printing forms with fixed form numbers like checks and credit vouchers, it was easier for forms alignment, etc., to write directly to /dev/lp0 (or whatever). We figured out what lock files and other controls NCR's spooler used and simulated them in a shell script wrapper to the forms printing programs. The customers had small enough operations that we never had problems with race conditions on the lock files. This was much more palatable to end-users than fooling with spooler commands. Perhaps that approach might work in your case. -- Walt Hultgren Internet: walt@rmy.emory.edu (IP 128.140.8.1) Emory University UUCP: {...,gatech,rutgers,uunet}!emory!rmy!walt 954 Gatewood Road, NE BITNET: walt@EMORY Atlanta, GA 30329 USA Voice: +1 404 727 0648
