There is a FAQ at the Informix WEB site, echoed on the IIUG WEB Site, I posted detailed instructions on what to do next in a posting in May or early June, and the Administrator's Guide also discusses the next step. Please put some effort into RTFM and browsing or searching this group's archive at the IIUG Site (www.iiug.org). Then if you have specific problems or don't understand anything we will be VERY happy to answer specific questions. Art S. Art, thanks for your reply. I had not been aware of the IIUG site and that was helpful. I had read both the "Getting Started with Informix Dynamic Server.2000" and "Installation Guide for Informix Dynamic Server.2000" and neither seems to indicate to me the required steps you outlined in your message from 5/12/00. I realize that Informix is a complex product and it's installation is correspondingly complex, but it seems to me that these documents are misleading to a newcomer in leaving out so many steps and details in getting the server running. Nevertheless I now have the "Administrator's Guide" and am wading through it trying to find the pertinent information. One further question: In installing the rpm for ICONNECT, I get the message that the required libraries libifgls.so and libifglx.so are missing. Should these be part of the server RPM? I think they were part of the engine install an were not found because you do not have LD_LIBRARY_PATH set to the Informix lib dir containing them. Alternatively you can link those .so's into /usr/lib which the IDS.2000 install as informix cannot do for you. The IDS7.xx install is performed as root so it can and does make those links for you. Set/export the var or make the links and try the install again. Art S. Kagel > Thanks again for your help! > > -- john > > "Art S. Installation of any of the Informix RPMs is pretty opaque on Linux, partly because you don't have the usual huge Informix printed documentation set. Even downloading the RPMs is tedious and complex. Sure, there's lots of info on the net if you know where to look, but it's much more difficult to find info than with true open source software. Your pointers are useful info, though, and I'll check them out - thanks.
