Working on Informix On-line Dynamic Server 7.30.UC.6 on Solaris Sparc, and I got this error on a SELECT query. bash-2.01$ finderr -566 -566 Cannot initiate sort. This internal error reflects an unexpected condition during a sort. Check the accompanying ISAM error code for more information. If the error recurs, please note all circumstances and contact Informix Technical Support. Onstat -g ses <sessid> will report the ISAM coce immediately after getting this error on a particular session. Usually with these generic codes like -566 it is the ISAM code that tells you what the problem is. Could be anything from a real bug to no permissions on the directories listed in PSORT_DBTEMP. You could try contacting Informix Technical Support, as the Obnoxious Clown suggested and the error message suggests. As a self-help measure, you could investigate whether you've set the INFORMIXSHMBASE environment variable to an inappropriate value (only an issue if you are using shared memory connections - the ISAM error might help here), or whether you've set the SHMBASE parameter in your $ONCONFIG file to a non-zero value which is too small (fixing it requires you to reboot the database). It might even be that you need to explicitly set SHMBASE to a non-zero value, but that's decidedly more tricky. The normal ISAM error indicates a lack of memory, and this is typically because there's a shared memory segment blocking malloc() from allocating more space -- or because you don't have enough swap space left on your system. Since you're using Solaris, /usr/sbin/swap -l might help you. -- Yours, Jonathan Leffler (Jonathan.Leffler@Informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix v1.00.PC1 -- http://www.perl.com/CPAN "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!"
