TIA. Yes. I can understand you think Windows is a little hard. You have Windows 95 and VB4 which are (or should be used as) 32 bit applications and you set up a 16 bit ODBC. That isn't the best place to start. Of course if your version of Impromptu and/or Forests and Trees are 16 bit you need a 16 bit ODBC driver for them. I never got Crystal ver. 4.0 to work with ODBC. It also hung forever. I never tried version 4.5, but version 5.0 works fine with the 32 bit OpenLink ODBC drivers. This version also have a class library included for use with NewEra. There was some rumor that this version would be included with NewEra ver. 3.0. It still needs ODBC (not only I-Net/I-Connect) as far as I know. The regular version you buy (professional edition at least) actually comes with Informix ODBC drivers and install them as part of the installation process. This may not be the latest version of I-Connect. I don't use this anyway so I haven't checked it. The whole setup will work much better if you use 32 bit software and drivers only. If NewEra isn't available with such drivers (ver. 3.0 is), you should at least get them for the other products. Also be aware that as you install ODBC on a PC and the user have a NewEra or VB application where he can do direct updates to the database, you are moving into the danger sone. With regular ODBC drivers (like the one from Informix) the user is only a few mouse clicks away from free access to the same tables in a grid where he can change any data to his harts desire. This is particularly easy if the user have MS Access available. With the OpenLink drivers you can avoid this problem (at least most of it).
