Informix Ad campaign?
Posted in 2000
I was just wondering why Informix has such unsual ad campaigns. It seems to me they ought to try something like; Informix - The company that specializes in getting information from your Unix system to you. Or Information from Unix, Informix, the 'ultimate' Information Mix. Perhaps those are a bit dated, Unix is just another operating system now, so perhaps they should concentrate on some unique aspects of the database server, as opposed to something like 'Obsidian', sounded like a perfume to me. Uniaquess? Unique Query Access for the 21st Century Uniface, the Uniform database interface, Unifix? But more to the point, how about the feature set, shared memory access.. InfoShm? The idea of naming the backend after the interface was an interesting move, it pointed out they were cognescient of the value of the enduser in the process. DBAxis? DBUAxes? DUBraxis? Multics was the basis of Unics which became Unix.. maybe they should go upstream.. or maybe that's why Informix, InformU? Informix, nothing beats it for "Informal" Access to your data. > insert grandma in Scottland in nightgown sitting down with > a cup of tea, a kitty, and a wall clock in the background, > around 3 am.. and a MacIntosh high tech silicone LCD panel. > Naturally the screen is lit with a webbowser and spreadsheet > with the Informix logo in the corner.. Maybe they should look at it from the perspective of the mass user again.. Webix? The core is still supposed to be UNIX OS features drive the development.. even under NT.. since NT got Unix-ish.. they ported to that platform.. maybe just IX? IX - Just IX, the database server for the 21st century, "Information to the Power of X" sounds better than "way to web", actually "This way to web" would have made a catchier phrase. any comments, any ideas?
