Informix Connect question

Hi folks, it's me again. My thanks to those who responded to my previous post. Here's another question regarding remote access to IDS 7.3 on Linux. I have Informix Connect running under Win95/NT and have been able to connect remotely to my database only when I supply my root username and password. When I use the users I would like to for the connection, I get error 952, 'User password is not correct...'. I have checked as much as I can and the passwords are correct. I can log into the server locally and execute all the queries I need (i.e., as much as I can tell, database permissions are set correctly). I experience no such problems connecting to IDS 7.3 on Solaris. Have I messed something up, or is there something else I'm missing... No, I haven't tried using ODBC yet. Thanks in advance... R.Bets

Are you using shadow passwords or MD5 passwords? Neither is supported by Informix. The fact that root can do things is odd, though; it should be excluded just as much as anybody else (if not more so), so I'm not confident in this diagnosis. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.95 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
With the latest 7.30 version (7.30.UC10), password shadowing is supported. But if you use NIS and password shadowing at the same time, you'll still see the same error message. - Marion In article <38D5D6FD.DFFE869B@earthlink.net>, Jonathan Leffler <jleffler@earthlink.net> wrote: > Ron Bets wrote: > > > Hi folks, it's me again. Informix Connect has it's problems doesn't it? I had the same problem that you are currently experiencing. You can try setting the password settings to "Ask Password at Runtime", but I ended up going into the registry and deleting the entries under : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Informix\\netrc\\ don't delete the netrc folder, just the subfolders. that gets rid of all the password information associated with a server name. I haven't had any problems since then. "Ron Bets" <rbets@crosskeys.com> wrote in message news:8b2s41$gf1$1@kannews.ca.newbridge.com... > Hi folks, it's me again.
