Update Statistics High Error
Posted in 2003
User on IDS 9.30.UC1 (Linux) gets "564: Cannot sort rows / 179: ISAM error: no free disk space for sort" when running UPDATE STATISTICS HIGH from cron. Respondents said the sort space is exhausted: check/point PSORT_DBTEMP at a filesystem with free space and check DBSPACETEMP temp dbspaces aren't filling, using onstat -d and df -k, and watch which space shrinks while the job runs to identify the culprit. The poster's output showed plenty of free space, and no confirmed resolution is recorded in the thread (a book recommendation, The Informix Handbook, was also mentioned).

When I try to execute update statistics high, I get the following
error :
Database selected.
564: Cannot sort rows.
179: ISAM error: no free disk space for sort
Database closed.
I use cron, with the user root to schedule it.
Informix Version : 9.30 UC1.
I also want to know if there is any good book about informix database
administration.
Can somebody help me ?
Set PSORT_DBTEMP to a directory with space
Look at DBSPACETEMP, make sure they are not filling
If you check onstat -d and df -k you'll see where the space is needed

Sounds like you may have PSORT_DBTEMP set to a file system that is getting
full or you don't have enough TEMP DBSPACE.

I can't see where I need more space.
Can you see where is the problem?
Thanks a lot!

When it's running what is decreasing - that is the problem area
