IDS Engine not responding

Hi All, IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.70.FC7GE HP-UX B.11.31 I have had three occasions now where it seems like the engine is not responding. I get no response on any commands I try. We have about 600 to 900 users which relates to + - 2000 sessions accessing the database. The connections are via 15 Citrix servers. I have identified more than 10 sessions doing very large reads, between 1000000 to 1600000. I would appreciate any ideas as to where to look for the slow/no response?

More questions than answers at this point !! Has this occurred only recently (in the life of the engine) or has it 'always' happened ? If recent, what changed before it started happening. What do the system logs show around the time of no response ? What does the database log show around this time ? Do you have top or top2 on the server ? if so what does it show around the slow-downs (need to have one while you are watching or run top in capture mode) ? Does sar show anything significant around the slow-downs ?
