Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------- Answer: ODBC is an application interface (API) it is usually a library on a client that needs to connect to the Informix database. ODBC was originally intended for Microsoft Windows. Later, ODBC drivers were written for UNIX workstations and UNIX servers.. they are still only required by the "client" in a client-server relationship. The Informix Database server does not require an ODBC driver or setup to accept ODBC connections. The ODBC driver on the client translates the application requests into "native" Informix network communications that the Informix Database server can understand. Thus an ODBC driver must always be accompanied by an installation "on the same client" of the "native" Informix network communications driver. Historically, the most trusted, reliable ODBC drivers have been those written by Intersolv. Intersolv was bought by Merant. They are now referred to as Merant ODBC drivers. However, Intersolv (labeled) ODBC drivers are still typically packaged with Database vendor driver bundles. Informix wrote an Informix version of an ODBC driver called Informix-CLI with extra capabilitites. Both Intersolv ODBC and Informix-CLI ODBC drivers come bundled together for free within the Informix SDK or Informix Client packages. You do have to collect the [serial#] and [key] you will be given after you register and when you download the software. When you install the software it will ask for this [serial#] and [key].
