Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

We upgraded from Informix 5.02.UC2 to Informix 7.10.UC2 on AIX 3.2.5
uniprocessor m/c. Informix tech support accepts that there are performance
problems on AIX uniprocessor m/c with Informix 6 and above. I am not able
to get the performance i got with Informix 5. Informix calims that it is
because of BAD AIX PORT. Informix does not seem to be doing anything about
it. They seem to have this problem seem to be there on both Informix 6 and
Informix 7 versions. Informix doesn't seem to be doing anything about it.
My findings are:
Reduce the LRU_MAX_DIRTY to really a low value like 9 or 10. This seems
to imporve a little bit but still no where near to Informix 5 performance.
My config set up:
BUFFERS (4500)
PHYBUFF (96MB)
LOGBUFF (48MB)
SHMVIRTSIZE 64MB
SHMADD 8192K
NUMCPUVP 1
SINGLECPUVP Y
NUMAIOVPS 6 (we have 3 hard disks.) ( I even tried keeping my db's on 2 hdisks and logs on the 3rd
hdisk but no improvement).
LRU_MAX_DIRTY 9LRU_MIN_DIRTY 3 ( i tried default 60 and 50 but the DIRTY never reaches
60%. My LRUWRITES in onstat -F are always zero.
Informix suggets to maximize the LRU WRITES.
only with 9 -3 setup i was able to maximize LRU WRITES
compared to CHUNK WRITES that happen during check pointtime)
PRIORITY AGING is not supported on AIX 3.2.5.
I got a patch from informix to fix the aging problem, but that hangs up my m/c
and it does not improve the performance.
