Bringing up a new instance of Informix

I need some help.
Platform HP UX 10.20
Informix version 9.20 UC1
Informix version 9.14 UC7
Informix version 7.31 UC4
I am configuring a new instance of informix 9.20 UC1. I am having
problems if I add DBSERVERALIASES.
I have the 9.14 and 7.31 configured and working properly.
The /etc/services entries on the HP box (starfish) looks like:
sqlexec_1544 1544/tcp # For the new 9.20 Instance
sqlexec_star 1542/tcp # Existing 9.14UC7 Instance
sqlexec 1543/tcp # Existing 7.31UC4 Instance
The sqlhosts file for the new 9.20 instance looks like:
star_ius_shm onipcshm starfish star_ius_shm
star_ius_soc onsoctcp starfish sqlexec_1544
star2_ods_soc onsoctcp starfish sqlexec
The sqlhost file for the existing 9.14 instance looks like:
honor_ius_shm onipcshm starfish honor_ius_shm
honor_ius_soc onsoctcp starfish sqlexec_star
star2_ods_soc onsoctcp starfish sqlexec
The sql host file for the existing 7.31 instance looks like:
star2_ods_shm onipcshm starfish star2_ods_shm
star2_ods_soc onsoctcp starfish sqlexec
honor_ius_soc onsoctcp starfish sqlexec_star
The config entries from the onconfig file are:(9.20 instance)
SERVERNUM 15 # Unique id corresponding to a OnLineinstance
DBSERVERNAME star_ius_shm # Name of default database server
DBSERVERALIASES star_ius_soc # List of alternate dbservernames
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,50,CPU # Configure poll thread(s) for nettype
NETTYPE soctcp,1,50,NET # Configure poll thread(s) for nettype
The online.log message entries are:
17:07:53 listener-thread: err = -931: oserr = 0: errstr =sqlexec_1544: Cannot locate sqlexec_1544 service/tcp service in
/etc/services.
17:07:53 Attempting to bring listener thread down.
17:07:53 Server stopped.
17:07:53 Informix Dynamic Server 2000 Stopped.
17:07:53 mt_shm_remove: WARNING: may not have removed all/correctsegments
The onconfig entries from the 9.14 instance:
SERVERNUM 12 # Unique id corresponding to a OnLineinstance
DBSERVERNAME honor_ius_shm # Name of default database server
DBSERVERALIASES honor_ius_soc # List of alternate dbservernames
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,50,CPU # Configure poll thread(s) for nettype
NETTYPE soctcp,1,50,NET # Configure poll thread(s) for nettype
The onconfig entries for the 7.31 instance:
SERVERNUM 11 # Unique id corresponding to a OnLineinstance
DBSERVERNAME star2_ods_shm # Name of default database server
DBSERVERALIASES star2_ods_soc # List of alternate dbservernames
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,50,NET # Configure poll thread(s) for nettype
NETTYPE soctcp,1,50,CPU # Configure poll thread(s) for nettype
I am pretty sure that I have left out some thing.
Appreciate your valuable time and input.
Thanks

If this is a direct extract from /etc/services then the problem may be that
port 1544 (sqlexec_1544) is out of order. The getservbyname() function
searches the /etc/services file and may be confused if the ports are not in
order. Move 1544 down and see what happens.

Thanks for the suggestion Art.
The order in the /etc/services file was changed as per your suggestion
and it did not work.
I also asked for another port number and that too did not work.
I brought down 7.31 instance and continued to access port number 1544
it did not work. But when I changed the sqlhosts file to listen to port
1543 (which belongs to 7.31) then it was OK. 9.20 worked fine.
Looks to me like HP-UX does not allow me to use any port that I want.
There is some thing required to make this port "listenable" which I am
not sure.
May be there are some issues related to NIS. I know that there are
several systems networked to each other. There are a couple of more HP
UX boxes that are available and the users home directory is available
on the same location on all the systems. Also the password file for the
unix authentication is a common one. Makes me suspect that the
/etc/services file it looks is not that is available on the local
machine. Is this possible ?
Any input will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Before you buy.
Oh, once NIS is involved... You added the new service to /etc/services but
did you add it to NIS? NIS will take precedence over local /etc/services
normally! That one I've run into before, sorry I did not recognize it
before.
