I get the errors from /tmp/buildsmi.887 as captioned after issued
command "oninit -iy".

Occassionally buildsmi fails, I don't think anyone knows why, during
initialization or upgrade. It is safe to manually run $INFORMIXDIR/etc/buildsmi
as user informix once the engine is online and
as long as that run succeeds all is well.

I give up using IDS as manually running buildsmi yields the same result -
process
983 p1 S 0:00 dbaccess - /opt/informix/etc/sysmaster
hangs there and keeps generating error in /tmp/buildsmi.584 and buildsmi.out:
908: Attempt to connect to database server (ids1) failed.
