Art, Thanks for the suggestion.
I have 4 instances of Informix running and trying to
configure Legato to take back up all of them. I believe the only way to accomplish
this is by sending the logs and archives to disk using onbar and send it to Legato.
I am using log_full.sh program to page database errors. Can you suggest me what
modifications I need to make in log_full.sh to accomplish this task. Thanks a lot for your suggestions again.

If you are using onbar for backups there is the sample script log_full.sh
in $INFORMIXDIR/etc. If you are using ontape get my package utils3_ak from
the IIUG Software Repository which contains a version of log_full.sh that
will work with ontape. It is a bit simpleminded but you can flesh it out.
That package also contains my executable ALARMPROGRAM, eventalarm.c, which
will also backup the logs to disk and is much smarter handling ontape
prompts and multiple volumes (though how they might be needed for a single
log backup I dunno), etc. I even can compress the log archive files. It
also handles most other ALARM events and can email a message to the
administrators and/or their text pagers or cell phones when the system is
in trouble. You can even configure it to only send one message per hour for
long-running repeated events like LOGS FULL, and LOCK TABLE OVERFLOW.

Are you aware that OnBar can restore using logical log backup files make by
ontape? Therefore the simplest way would be to have log_full.sh use ontape
to make the backups. Mods: Change ONCONFIG param LTAPEDEV to a filepath,
say $INFORMIXDIR/logbackups/logfile, change log_full.sh to run ontape -a
when event severity 2, class 23 (Logical log complete) arrives, then rename
and optionally compress the file and touch a new empty file of the name
pointed to by LTAPEDEV. My eventalarm.c renames the file logfile.<N> where
<N> is the number of the first (usually the only) logical logfile it
contains which it parses from the dialogue with ontape.
