IDS 11.7 ,Inplace Upgrade Failed
Posted in 2011
An in-place upgrade from IDS 11.50 to 11.70 on Solaris/ZFS failed at startup with "Cannot Open Primary Chunk ... errno = 2" and a fatal shared-memory initialization error. The cause was the ZFS mountpoint swap: remounting the new 11.70 filesystem at /informix left the old chunk files (and their symlinks) under /ids11.5, so the server couldn't find them. After fixing the chunk paths/links, the conversion succeeded. Posters also clarified that renaming the sysadmin database applies only to pre-11.10 upgrades, not 11.5 to 11.7.

I'm trying to upgrade IDS11.5 to IDS11.7 to benefit the features of IDS 11.7.
From Informix migration guide,I know that I've to rename sysadmin database
before doing the migration, but How to do it?
Before doing the migration,I've do the Level 0 archive
the storage of informix is raw type and OS is Solaris 10 SPARC version
Here is some info of what I'm doing:

In 11.5 your chunks are under /informix/data/mitiis/
I suppose that zfs commands are some kind of mounting (I do not speak
solaris), so
you "unmount" tank/informix from /informix and you "mount" tank/ids11.7
to /informix.
Your original spaces are now on /ids11.5/data/mitiis/.
So you have to copy all chunks to /informix:
cd /ids11.5
tar cf - data | (cd /informix; tar xf -)
If your spaces inside data dir are links, man you are lucky. If not,
this will have to
copy all data.

Yes you' re right.Error 2 mean -2 No such file or directory.
An operating-system error code with the meaning shown was unexpectedly
returned to the database server. Look for other operating-system error
messages that might give more information.
Ok I've fix the path/links and Finally the conversion is success.
But actually do I need to rename the sysadmin database, because I've tried
several times to rename the database but I can't?
The conversion is successfull although I did not rename the database...

Why do you think you have to rename sysadmin database?
In-place upgrade will do any changes if needed.

Because it stated in Informix Migration Guide to rename the sysadmin database before upgrading... A new system database called sysadmin was introduced in IDS 11.10 . If you have a database called sysadmin, you must rename it prior to upgrading to 11.10 or 11.50

If it so happened that you had called one of your databases 'sysadmin', then you needed to give it a new name before the upgrade. If, however, you had no such database of your own creation - just one created by the system - then you have nothing to do. So, the intention was that if you have a 9.40 or 10.00 or some earlier version of IDS and there was a database 'sysadmin' in the old instance, then you need to rename it. If you have 11.10 or 11.50 (or 11.70), the sysadmin database will be the one created by IDS and there is no need to do anything with it. -- Jonathan Leffler <jonathan.leffler@gmail.com> #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix - v2008.0513 - http://dbi.perl.org "Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused." --0015175cdaf24f0f5904a39a83c2
You're doing 11.5 -> 11.7 migration, so you do not have non system sysadmin database. This is only for pre 11 migrations.
