PERFORMANCE between TCPIP and IPCSHM CONNECTION

HI, With IPCSHM connecton ,the performance should be better tan tcpip connection. Do anyboddy do the PERFORMANCE testing between TCPIP(client run on another machine) and IPCSHM CONNECTION? How about the testing result in the real case? thanks for your time.
I haven't done that kind of testing in many years. When I last did, ipcshm was much faster, but networks get better snd tuning is an important part of the mix. Still, it's faster. However add to the decision that running apps on the server will steal cycles that the database engine could be using, so it's not a simple equation Art On Sep 6, 2015 7:11 PM, "CHUAN LU" <luchuan@cn.ibm.com> wrote: > HI, > > With IPCSHM connecton ,the performance should be better tan tcpip > connection. > > Do anyboddy do the PERFORMANCE testing between TCPIP(client run on another > machine) and IPCSHM CONNECTION? Just to add a bit to Art's reply. The difference also depends on how much communication there is between the client and the server. If the application is doing a large number of simple inserts, then generally IPCSHM is going to be faster. But if the application tends to do a lot of more complex queries, then the majority of the time is going to be sent in the server, not in the network. Also, you can significantly increase the performance of TCP communications by increasing the FET buffer size. mpruet - Retired
