Newbie question. I have a Sun 4500 with 2 A1000's controllers and Veritas running Solaris 7. The server was installed with Veritas by the Sun vendor. I requested 2 gig partitions, but they are character devices. Is that right? Our current SCO system is using block devices. Was something not done right in Veritas? I want to install Informix 7.31. Using onmonitor I tried to initialize the DB but it won't let me out of the screen. The cursor keeps going back to the primary path for the root name which is /dev/informix/dbspace01 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 29 Sep 12 11:37 /dev/informix/dbspace01 -> /dev/vx/rdsk/informixdg/vol01 crw------- 1 informix informix 158,94000 Sep 12 11:11 /dev/vx/rdsk/informixdg/ vol01 Thanks Gary Quiring

The rights must be 660 not 600 for /dev/vx/rdsk/.... Frank
