I'd agree - more tuning ability, better connectivity - no Informix-
STAR required, it is built-in!! Also there are more paramters to make
it easier to tune. There are also less UNIX processes running under
Informix v7. There is no longer one process per client connected,
just one process (or maybe two or three for a server with > 250
users) which is multi-threaded and has one thread per client.
This means much less switching between processes by the UNIX
scheduler and less memory used.

Get the latest versioin - 7.13 or 7.2 depending upon your plaform.
Programs won't run slower if they do not stick to ANSI-SQL, but a few
may find slower due to a different architecture under v7. Most will
run faster especially under heavy load with many users connected.

The recovery thing was one thing under consideration for v8. (This
was from an Informix trainer on a course - it is not confirmed just
was under discussion ~ June/July last year).

Same here, preferably in 1000's so it's not too heavy to carry ;->
