Can I Determine Client IP Address?

Is there a way to determine the IP Address of a client PC connected to Informix? I see where the Hostname (TTY) is available, but we don't run DNS, so there's no way to resolve it that way. What I'm looking to do is this: 1. Create a security/transaction log that records who and from where a client connected. 2. Provide a mechanism (through a CRON activity) that performs a PING and a TRACEROUTE on a connected client on a periodic basis and records the results. This is primarily in response to complaints that the server is "too slow". Any measurements we take indicate sub-second response "on the box" but, depending upon when and where connections occur, certain users are complaining. It would be nice to counter emotions with fact. It would be nice if our networking folks could do this for me.... Thanks.
Try finger to get the ip addresses of users connected to the server. I use the attached script to set my DISPLAY when I log in. You may be able to cannibalize it. The first is for Solaris and the second is for AIX. #!/bin/sh # if [ "`tty`" = "not a tty" ] then echo 0.0 else h2=`who am i |awk '{print $6}' | tr "(" " " | tr ")" " " ` h4=`/usr/sbin/arp $h2 | tr "(" " " | tr ")" " " | awk '{print $2}'` echo $h4:0.0 fi #!/bin/sh # h2=`who am i |awk '{print $6}' | tr "(" " " | tr ")" " " | tr "." " " | awk '{print $1}'` h4=`arp $h2 | tr "(" " " | tr ")" " " | awk '{print $5}'` echo $h4:0.0 it adds the ":0.0" to the end of the ip address. The Zero Impact Sql Monitor will capture the client IP address -- plus SQL and end-user service level performance. Refer to www.sqlpower.com.
