I suppose 0x0 means OS decides ? The engine cant attach to shared mem, but if I kill 5, then 7 starts up fine. -----Original Message----- From: Watson Paul [mailto:Paul.Watson@fefc.ac.uk] Sent: Tuesday, September 05, 2000 12:26 PM To: 'Hannes Visagie (Dimension Data)'; informix-list@iiug.org Subject: RE: Two instances on one box, ONLINE 5 + IDS 7, HP UX 10.2 Does 0x0 mean let the OS decide the base under HP-UX, it does under Solaris, Dynix etc, so there isn't a problem Paul Watson # WF Software Ltd # Please don't Tel: +44 1436 674729 # confuse me with Fax: +44 1436 678693 # someone who cares www.wfsoftware.com # > -----Original Message----- > From: Hannes Visagie (Dimension Data) > [mailto:Hannes.Visagie@za.didata.com] > Sent: Tuesday, September 05, 2000 8:59 AM > To: informix-list@iiug.org > Subject: Two instances on one box, ONLINE 5 + IDS 7, HP UX 10.2 > > > Hi all > > I have a problem where both instances want to start shared > mem base at 0x0. > The 5 engine is in production and cant bring it down. > > For the time being I moved the 7 engine to a spare server, > but that server > is going into production next week. The SHMBASE is just where in the executable shared memory is attached it
does NOT affect mulitiple instances. The value(s) in the TBCONFIG/ONCONFIG
file that does that is/are:
in both 5 & 7:
SERVERNUM
DBSERVERNAME
in 7 only
DBSERVERALIAS
The SERVERNUM determines the shared memory KEY value and is used to isolate
mulitple instances on a server. Looks like your TBCONFIG file for 5.xx and
the ONCONFIG file for 7.xx are using the same SERVERNUM value.
