Re: Unix- HELP! Are we being bluffed?

Dear Doc, What I said was Informix-Net "functions like an OBDC driver". I did not say or mean to imply that is "was" one. Semantics of architectural niceties aside they both allow clients to talk to servers: they do the same job. The applications that FMSC produce depend on this middleware and we spent a lot of time evaluating them. That was six months ago, things change, Informix-Net has evidently improved, but it remains proprietary and expensive. While any terminal emulator will allow you to re-map keyboards, making this part of you implementation strategy is liable to cause long term administration problems: how to ensure consistency for all users who each have their own pc's with their own terminal definitions? This strategy does not help users on dumb terminals. The best place for terminal definitions is where they belong: one copy in one place: on the server in termcap/terminfo. I hope this has cleared up any misunderstanding, All the best Pete. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Pete Harris Financial Market Software Consultants~ ~ phr@fmsc.com.au 109 Pitt St Sydney NSW 2000 ~ ~ Australia ~ ~ ~ ~ These opinions can be: ill informed, horribly biased, totally wrong or ~ ~ all of the above.
