.net provider versions numbering

I'm confused on something simple and I was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me. I currently build .net applications against windows csdk version 3.50 on my build machine. If I browse to c:\\\\windows\\\\assembly, I see IBM.Data.Informix 3.0.0.2 (x86). If I bring up the properties for this assembly, I see file version 3.0.8000.2 We are moving to a newer server version, so I'm evaluating newer CSDK versions for new deployments. On a test client, I've installed CSDK 4.10.TC1DE. If I browse to c:\\\\windows\\\\assembly, I see IBM.Data.Informix 2.81.0.0, file version 4.0.1000.1 (no processor architecture). So the file version has gone up (as expected), but the assembly version has gone down? This doesn't make sense to me. Further testing reveals that applications error out, complaining about missing assemblies IBM.Data.Informix version 4.0.0.2 and IBM.Data.Informix 3.0.0.2. To complicate things more, I did a search for the IBM.Data.Informix.dll file, and I found two separate versions, one for .net 1.1 in c:\\\\program files\\\\ibm Informix client sdk\\\\bin\\ etf11 and one for .net 2.0 in c:\\\\program files\\\\ibm Informix client sdk\\\\bin\\ etf20. The version information on the one in netf11 matches what I see in the c:\\\\windows\\\\assembly folder, but the version information for the .net 2.0 version is file version 4.0.0.2, assembly version 4.0.1000.2. I copied the netf20 version into the GAC and now the applications give the error: "The type initializer for ibm.data.informix.ifxconnection threw and exception: unable to load dll iclit09b.dll, the specified module could not be found". I'm I missing something here, or is the installer just not very good? -Justin
After a reboot everything seems to work. Perhaps it didn't like me uninstalling one version and installing another without rebooting in-between. -Justin -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Justin Killen Sent: Thursday, August 08, 2013 3:02 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: .net provider versions numbering [31104] I'm confused on something simple and I was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me.
