Re: Maximum Number Of Extents
Posted in 2000
The total no. of extents allowed for a table varies depending on the page size, number of indexes, number of columns per index, and the type of columns in the table (i.e. VARCHAR, TEXT, or BYTE). For systems with a 2K page size, the maximum no. of extents is approximately 200. Systems with a 4K page size can have approx. 450 extents. Our production database is growing rather more rapidly than expected and we have a number of tables with in excess of 50 extents. I would very much appreciate "the official line" with regard to the impact of having so many extents. I hope to be able to persuade the powers that be to let me reorganise (i.e. allocate initial extents etc) this database in the near future, but need some ammunition to better my case.
