Upper(datafield) in Informix 5.0

I am supporting a legacy Informix 5.0 database. I'm trying to do a lookup on user names. Normally I would execute a sql command like the following to do this: select upper(username) from usertable order by upper(username); But the upper function does not seem to exist in Informix 5.0!!! Any old-timers out there who have wrestled with this one? Or do I just spool to a file & do a shell script for the ascii conversion??? Thanks! Toni
This was always a problem in 5.0 and earlier. That is the MAIN reason we forced CHARACTER fields to only have UPPER CASE values. If I can find the appropriate code snip I will forward to you. Check the code vault at www.iiug.org - lot's of good stuff there - maybe what you are looking for. Good Luck. There is an UPPER store procedure, slow but usable, in the IIUG Software Repository. Art S. Kagel Toni Graybill wrote: > > I am supporting a legacy Informix 5.0 database. Thanks Art, I knew I remembered something in the IIUG archives but didn't have time to investigate it for Toni. Toni - I leave you in the wealth of Mr. Kagel's knowledge... Rob Vorbroker Art S.
