ISQL 4.10 running with OnLine 5.03
I want to update data in a TEXT column using forms.
(do not have 4GL or ESQL-anything)
"Informix Guide to SQL Reference/December 1991" says
on page 3-17,
"You can insert data into TEXT columns...
Through a screen form with the PROGRAM attribute (INFORMIX-SQL)"
But what is this PROGRAM attribute and how do you use it?
I do not find a reference to the PROGRAM attribute in any
index with my documentation. I do not find it in the section
on form attributes in the User Guide. I have tried the following
in the form specification (for a dummy table "testtext"):
=================================================================
DATABASE africa_gis
screen size 24 by 80
{
id [f000 ]
remarks [f001 ]
}
end
tables
testtext
attributes
f000 = testtext.id;
f001 = testtext.remarks, program;
end
================================================================
BUT this bombs in compilation (not unexpectedly, I knew it
couldn't be *that* simple!) as follows:
================================================================
DATABASE africa_gis
screen size 24 by 80
{
id [f000 ]
remarks [f001 ]
}
end
tables
testtext
attributes
f000 = testtext.id;
f001 = testtext.remarks, program;
#--------------------------------^
#
# A grammatical error has been found on line 12,
# character 34. The construct is not understandable in its context.
# See error number -2018.
end
===============================================================
I am able to LOAD the info into the table with no problem. But
what if I want to modify existing TEXT data? I cannot even use
UPDATE...SET, not that I would want to. The only workaround I
know of available to me is to UNLOAD the table, make the updates
with a text editor, and LOAD the table back in. Makes me
wonder what's the point of an RDBMS.
