What messages do you get in the online log?
What operating system are you using and which online version?

There are no log messages written into the log from the 'ontape -r'.
The last message in
the online.log is "The server has been stopped"

I am running SuSE 7.0 kernel 2.2.16 . I am running Informix Internet
Server 2000 9.20 uc1
I am also using raw dataspaces under linux.
I can do a 'ontape -r -D somedatasp and it restores that just fine.
Ofcource the dataserve is in on-line mode when I tried that.
If you need any other info let me know!

Okay,
everything is okay.
when I execute an 'ontape -r' it's a full 2.5 minutes before I get
prompted to insert the tape.
I just wasn't waiting log enough!! Is that time delay normal??
Thanks

Not on DGUX or Solaris it's not. There is a significant delay after
verifying that you have mounted the correct tape set to wait for the engine
to start up in 'Recovery' mode but that is later and depends on the platform
(2-3 mins in Solaris, 3-5 mins in DGUX/Intel, 8-15 mins DGUX/M88K for
example).
