}After moving an application from 4.0 compiled 4.1 RDS I get the
}following error:
}
}INITIALIZE record_name.* TO NULL
}|
}| There are too many variables to VALIDATE or INITIALIZE in one
}| statement.
}| See error number -4436.
}
}In the above example, record_name is defined as like a table with
}about 300 columns. Informix support reports that there is a 250
}variable limit on INITIALIZE in both 4.0 and 4.1 RDS and compiled,
}so it officially shouldn't be working (as it does). Anyway, this
}application is peppered with these statements and I will appreciate
}any suggestions. I want, of course, to avoid hard coding the names
}or numbers of columns into the 4gl source.

I can't see any logical reason for applying this restriction -- the data
structure which is being protected is fully allocated, so it isn't a
question of overflowing an array bound.
The 4.12 code has the restriction removed.
It's bug 21002.
