Hi friends, i have trouble with informix! I filled in the account form and on service/serial field filled in my serial number of an informix product. The form was accepted and next day called me one of the german distributors of informix and tried to sale me a service contract! Without service contract: No account/password! I think informix is (a little) crazy! I don't have one and i don't want one! All i want are 3 things: 1. Knowing what is the actual port of a given plattform, 2. How looks products aging and end of life, 3. Bugs known and workarounds available. What on these is soooo expensive to protect it???? First is of normal product information, 2. too and 3. : If i bought a product and it has defects, than normally you can change it, get your money back or get it for a lower price. Yes i know software is never without errors - but on Informix you will nor get the information of a bug neither any help/info to work around one if you do not pay for a service contract. Very, very unfriendly! They are sooo crazy that they think i am crazy. Now then, hold your secrets (and products) for yourself! Cheers Peter PS: BUT this NG is great, really!
You are right, informix is famed for having the best technology, but the worst marketing and customer service. I did the same registration without ANY question in follow up (if you mentioned Tech Center http://www.informix.com/informix/services/ilink/ilink.htm) And I can do now that you need (product availability query) All the best, Serge "Peter" <proORGA-Leimen@t-online.de> wrote in message news:3a081fcc.20081478@news.btx.dtag.de... > Hi friends, > i have trouble with informix! Informix is nice ;-( Yesterday i got a call from an 'Event Marketing' man! GREAT man! He told me, that the wanted info is only available for the paying peoples, that is for what thay pay. (poore folk ;-) ) But i can ask him! So he gave me his email address and i will sent him my questions. Conclusion: Paying folk can search themselves, he will do the work for me -> very nice and future-stable service of full closed source. Informix and it's crazy service is great. Cheers ;;--)) Peter PS: Hey Clown: Don't email me, when i do not ask for it!!! >Hi friends, >i have trouble with informix! It is a programm for the customers with valid mainentenance. There are several options: assurance, Open Line, 24x7 as addon for OpenLine. I have the assurance bought bundelled with the licences. BTW, in EMEA region it is not possible to buy the licence without a minimum maintenance (read - assurance). When registering you should provide the product license number. This number is registered world-wide and Informix always knows when the license was sold, who is the customer, do you have a valid maintenance or not. So, in my case I got to be registered.
