Hi All, I was just asked "Is Informix 32 bits or 64 bits??" by a user and I answered 32 bits. But I know little about it. I think this also depends on OS & Hardware - obviously. We have IDServer 7.3x, ISQL 7.2, I4GL 7.2 on Solaris 2.6. uname -a: SunOS 5.6 Generic_105181-15 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250 My questions: 1. IDS 7.3x on Solaris 2.6, is ?? bits software. 2. ISQL 7.2 on Solaris 2.6, is ?? bits software. 3. I4GL 7.2 on Solaris 2.6, is ?? bits software. 4. 4GL Application is ?? bit software. I would appreciate if any one can provide other related info on this matter. Thanks, Nick.
> uname -a: SunOS 5.6 Generic_105181-15 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250 All applications, servers, and other products running on Solaris 2.6 are 32-bit. You are at least in luck, since "sun4u" products can be upgraded to an OS that supports 64-bit applications. Typical Informix products have version strings of the form: <major>.<minor><rev>.<platform><release><patchlevel> For example: 8.31.UC1 The platform string can be one of the following: U -> Unix, 32-bit F -> Unix, 64-bit T -> NT, 32-bit This list is hardly complete. In order to run a server in 64-bit mode on your machine, you will first need to upgrade to Solaris 7, run it in 64-bit mode, and get a release of the server that has an "F" in the platform field. --jrp, not speaking for Informix
Any IDS version that ends in: TC - WinNT version UC - 32bit UNIX version FC - 32bit compiled on a 64bit OS HC - full 64bit version Art S. Typically "A" is alpha, "B" is beta, "C" is the first customer shipment, and "D" may be a full release. As for "F" versus "H", you got them reversed, although "H" is a bit more complicated than your note. An "H" release might be 32-bit HP/UX 11, when there's a "U" release that goes to 32-bit HP/UX 10.20, and the "F" release will be for 64-bit on HP/UX 11. You won't see "H" unless there's two different 32-bit versions. --jrp, not speaking for Informix
