Hello guys, Is CDI different from subscribing to informix-list? I have seen that we can read the discussions related to Informix database at www.deja.com, www.remarq.com. Are those the same as informix-list or are there any additions? Can I subscribe to them to get mails regarding the queries/answers/discussions related to Informix? Are there any other sites/discussion forums related to Informix? Thanks in advance for your replies. This may be of general interest, so I'll post back to the group.... Vinod Bhansali wrote: > > Is CDI different from subscribing to informix-list? Go to www.iiug.org and click on the "Discussion Groups & Usenet" link for details. In summary: Aside from the obvious delivery differences, there is no difference in the two forums -- theoretically. All c.d.i articles that make it to news.xmission.com, IIUG's generous news feed benefactor, are then "gatewayed" into informix-list at iiug.org. Likewise, messages posted to informix-list are posted to c.d.i via xmission in addition to being sent to the list. At times, all of this works less than 100% perfectly, so some info may appear in one forum and not in the other; e. g., c.d.i articles that don't make it to xmission, list messages with headers that xmission's news server doesn't like, etc. Also, there are filters in the Majordomo list management software that runs informix-list that occasionally trap messages that contain undesirable expressions like "supervision", "deadlines", etc. Those filters affect only the list and not articles posted directly to the newsgroup. UseNet, deja-news, and remarq are passive, you have to connect and look at the postings yourself. If you ISP provides news service you can use netscape messenger (File>Subscribe) or MS Outlook to subscribe to newsgroups through your ISP, otherwise you have to use deja or remarq or aubscribe to the mailing list interface. > Are there any other sites/discussion forums related to Informix? Check out the developer's corners at the Informix WEB Site (www.informix.com) and the SIGs at the IIUG site (www.iiug.org). Art S. Kagel
