Check the install notes. There should be some kernel parameter change
information in there as well a a lot of useful information in regards to
your platform.
On a more professional level, it is always a good idea to read the
install noted before installing.

Yep, someone mentioned something to me some time back about this
sort of thing, seems AIX 4.2.1 allowed a max of 256MB of shared
memory for an app... period...
AIX 4.3.3 however allows 2GB... but only 11 calls to shmget(),
however informix grabs 4 on startup. period. So, although
we could override the 11 limit, we would endup losing memory
in vast chunks (see the man pages for a descrip)
Now, this is obviously a bad thing.
Solution, change SHMVIRTSIZE to some nice large value,
I'm no grabbing 32MB to begin with, that runs for a few hours
before informix requires more, and as I see it, even at high load,
informix wasnt grabbing much, so I just set SHMVIRTSIZE up a little
and SHMADD up aswell...
