RE: config of online

In fact, I would be interested in the answer very much. A complete list of all Informix config params indicating which ones can be tuned dynamically, which ones cannot, will be extremely helpful indeed. Any one? (Sorry, This seems a very simple question as i am a new entrant in DBA area) Thanks

This is an easy one. The following parameters can be changed manually
in the ONCONFIG file and take immediate effect:
TAPEDEV
TAPESIZE
TAPEBLK
The following can be changed using onmonitor to take immediate effect
but changing directly in the ONCONFIG file has no immediate effect):
LTAPEDEV
LTAPESIZE
LTAPEBLK
The following can be modified online for immediate effect by an onmode
or other utility command:
NUMCPUVPS - onmode -p +/-n cpu (where n is number of VPs)
NUMAIOVPS - onmode -p +/-n aio (where n is number of VPs)
RESIDENT - onmode -r/-n
ONDBSPACEDOWN - onmode -O
DS_MAX_QUERIES - onmode -Q
DS_MAX_SCANS - onmode -S
LOGFILES - onparams
PHYSFILE - onparamsPHYSDBS - onparams
The onparams commands modify the ONCONFIG file appropriately as well as
making the operational change. However, changes made using onmode are
temporary and the equivalent change to the ONCONFIG file must be made
by hand.

You do for the change to take immediate effect but it is likewise safe
to make the change and wait for the next scheduled bounce/boot for the
change to take effect.
