CRITICAL PHYSLOG CHUNK DOWN
Posted in 2015

Hi, I was working on a new database informix 12 on Windows 2008 r2, I was
working in gathering archive datas in this new informix 12 databse, I have not
yet take any backup, and I have resize the Physlog to a chunk of 40 Gb, the
informix has went down because maybe of the size and wont to start, in the log
I get "bad primary chunk PHYSLOG" wich is the chunk of physicla log, I verify
with oncheck and I found that this chunk is marcked down, so Is there any way
to bypass this chunk, we have no backups of this database and its a very
important database for us, did IBM support got some tips or tools to bring
this database up again.
I need advice plz.
thanks a lot for answering.
Hello.
Your physical log is a critical dbspace. Did online.log shows any af file
generation?
I suggest you to open a support call with IBM, even if I really can't imagine
why you should need such a huge physdbs.
I have seen some VLDBs with a little lower, so I figure you might be running
an Enteprise Version.
The only trivial way would be a dbspace restore, indeed. In my humble opinion,
you should not run more than a medium Informix instance, in windows OS. We
have several better OSes, much more performatic with Informix databases,
including open-source ones (and supported by IBM).
I would even suggest an oninit -PHY, but.... I won't recommend you, since
there seems to be something anormal with your physlog.
Good luck, hope it helps.
Best regards.
