Best Config for DUAL CPU Informix Server?

I have a small application (OLTP) running on a dual cpu sun E250 (2 300 mghz cpus). The configuration guidance we've recieved is that we should setup if the server to run as if the box had only one CPU because the xtra overhead of locking etc involved in multiple CPUVPS would cancel out any performance gains. What is the group concenses? It is better to try to set MULTIPROCESSOR to 1 and add a second CPUVPS? BTW, the box is used only to host a single informix instance, and has practically nothing else of consequence running on it. Normally NUMCPUVPS should be at most #CPUS - 1. There has been some success configuring NUMCPUVPS as high as 2 * #CPUS on Sun Sparc platforms with CPUS AT LEAST 400MHZ or faster. On your box, and especially with only 21 CPUs I'd recommend leaving only one CPU VP. Art S.
