error 38300 loading messages
Posted in 2010
After an OS reinstall on Solaris 9 (IDS 9.40), logical log backups failed with only "Error 38300 loading messages" shown. Replies pointed out that message 38300 lives in archive.iem and that the wording suggests the tool couldn't load its message file at all. The poster checked and found archive.iem (plus six other files) missing from $INFORMIXDIR/msg/en_us/0333. Restoring the file from another installation of the same version made log backups work again.

Hi folks, hoping someone can help me out on this. Platform Solaris 9 Sparc, IDS 9.40 UC6 (old, I know) Can't backup logical logs, all I see is the error message in the subject. Any idea how to debug (or better solve this) ? Situation : due to a faulty remove, the OS had to be reinstalled completely. All of informix was on a separate disk on the SAN, after some configuration (/etc/profile, /etc/system, /etc/services, ..) DB was up again and is running but the logical logs are filling up and the backup is failing. Already searched for the error-message but no meaningfull results; Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks. Best regards, Jacques Lapeire

Thanks Jonathan, it seems you're in the right direction. Apparently the file archive.iem (and 6 other files too) is missing on the system. I'm just installing the same version on an other system to capture the missing files. Ok guys thanks for any reply, indeed that was the problem, the file $INFORMIXDIR/msg/en_us/0333/archive.iem was missing. After a restore of the file, backups are running again.
