all hail UPDATE STATISTICS!!! well, i found the source of most of my problem. in doing the migration, i was running out of time by 7:00 in the morning to get all the databases migrated for the coming day, and i forgot to run my little update statistics script. it is amazing how much the engine now makes use of that information. today, queries that were taking 15-20, and brining the system to a crawl, are now running in less than a minute with no noticable impact to the rest of the system, after an update statistics high on each database. my databases are not that big, so i just ran this high during the day, and waited for it to finish, and then tested my queries. on one database that i looked at, there were about 3200 tuples in sysdistribs, a lot of information. things seem to be running really well now. i'm going to make sure that i have update statistics on all my databases this weekend, which should help things even more. mickm
