Fwd: FW: HewlettPackard XP 256
Posted in 2000
All:
Recently I have benchmarked four storage subsystems from as many vendors.
HP's XP256 did NOT perform well using Raid 5. Using OUR production data
simulating OUR environment.
The test environment was:
- HP V2500 12 cpu
- 8 gig ram
- I/O depending on vendor
. scsi fwd "six cards"
. or scsi ultra "six cards"
. or fiber "two cards"
- Informix 7.31 64 bit.
. 220 gig production database
Raid 5 is not necessarily the issue, but the hardware and software behind
it.
Our decision was to purchase a IBM-2105/E20. This is a outstanding piece of
engineering with equally good performance. Configured ALL RAID 5 with 6 Gig
or read cache the box is outstanding. Please note that I have experienced a
long list of microcode problems which have mostly been resolved.
