RE: S.O.S....Upgrade from 11.50.FC9W2X8 to 12.....
Posted in 2015
After upgrading AIX 6.1 to 7.1 and IDS 11.50.FC9W2X8 to 12.10.FC4W1, the poster found that non-DBA users could no longer connect when explicitly supplying a username/password (dbaccess Connect menu, ILogin, setnet32, ODBC), getting error 951 "user ... not known on the database server"; implicit connections (dbaccess <dbname>) and informix/DBA-group users worked fine. Suggestions included checking online.log for missing files such as hosts.equiv, the setuid permissions on oninit (they were correct), shared-memory vs network connections, sqlhosts/NETTYPE entries, and a possibly corrupt .infos file. No resolution is recorded; a PMR with IBM was still open.
Auto-generated by DrWatson from the posts below — may be imperfect; read the full thread.
Topics: Installation, Setup & Upgrades, Connectivity: ODBC / JDBC / .NET, Server Administration, Security, Permissions & Auditing, Platform-Specific Issues
What about permissions on the oninit binary? Do they look like:
-rwsr-sr--. 1 root informix 25199626 Jun 8 17:18 oninit
We have had a similar issue when these were not correct.

When dbaccess connects successfully, are you using a shared memory
connection or a network connection?
If shared memory, what happens if you connect to dbaccess with
INFORMIXSERVER set to a network connection?

What about permissions on the oninit binary? Do they look like:
-rwsr-sr--. 1 root informix 25199626 Jun 8 17:18 oninit
We have had a similar issue when these were not correct.

Thought that it might be the .infos.<INFORMIXSERVER> file being corrupt, but
that would likely mean you couldn't connect to the database in the first
place with a network connection.
