Licensing query

People, I would like a clarification re informix CPU licensing. Are informix charging per CPU socket or per CPU core ? Currently all new Intel based CPU's are dual core thus this imply that I have to pay for each cpu core or for one socket. Other DBMS vendors have stated this clearly (i.e. per socket not core) however I cannot find such statement with regards to informix RDBMS. Thanks Kenneth
I waited for a while for IBM employees to respond. I went through the same process, a few years back. In windows, since there is a lot of competition, each CPU irrespective of the number of cores is taken as one CPU. In Unix/Linux, each core is taken an individual CPU. This is not necessarily correct any more. IBM have, I believe, recently revised their pricing model for Informix (and DB2 for that matter). Best bet; speak to your local IBM representative. Look at http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/06/01/ibm_changes_price/ for a journalists spin on things. Kenneth We are going though the same issues on an IBM P series, and the answer is: it depends !! There is supposed to be chart somewhere that says how many licenses are required for each dual core depending on procesor type, age, speed, architecture, day of the week, colour of underpants !! but our account manager has yet to locate it. When he does I will add to this thread. Keith On 25/09/06, KENNETH PENZA <kenneth.penza@gov.mt> wrote: > > People, > > I would like a clarification re informix CPU licensing.
