Hi All, I'm not at all familiar with Informix, however, I have been asked to connect our webserver to a remote Informix database on a Sun box. My webserver is a Linux Mandrake 7 box, running apache and PHP. I've compiled PHP4 --with-informix and the compile went fine. I granted access to user nobody to /opt/informix. I've placed the relevant environment info in my httpd startup script (INFORMIXSERVER=overthere, INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix and the path to $INFORMIXDIR/bin) In my PHP script, when I try to use $conn_id=pconnect("joe@overthere","uname","password"); i get the error: Warning: ifx_pconnect : E [SQLSTATE=IX 000 SQLCODE=-25591] -25591 is defined as Transport control received an invalid connection address. the host information is in my sqlhosts file. overthere seipcpip thatserver sqlexec thatserver is in my /etc/hosts file as well. Any ideas where to go from here? Best Regards, Chris Dunlop

You'll have to use a sesoctcp or setlitcp. If on the other hand, you DO want to use pipes (seipcpip) I would suspect the third field might not be the FQDN (complete hostname).

Like I said, I know nothing about Informix, or what exactly is supposed to by in sqlhosts. But step in the right direction! I changed seipcpip to sesoctcp and got error -931 instead (Cannot locate %s service/tcp service in /etc/services.) I should be able to fix it from here i hope. Thanks for the help! Chris Dunlop

You'll have to define the sqlexec service in /etc/service and it should correspond to the port that the SUN is using, i.e. is listening on. You also may have to install I-Connect, if you don't already have it. I believe that you need I-Connect for making remote connections. Also, the Sun should be configured to accept connections from your Linux machine. I'm not sure, since I use seipcpip (database runs on the same machine as the clients). What's puzzling, is that you have to specify TCP port number and hostname for seipcpip as well. This may have caused you to think that you could use seipcpip for making remote connections, but that's not the case.
